Customising the Forum
Want to customise the appearance of the forum to suit your tastes and needs? The User Control Panel (UCP) is the place to go. When logged in to the forum you can access the UCP at the top left of the page, underneath the Board Index link and next to your private messages.
Under the Board Preferences tab in the UCP you can edit several settings that will change the layout and behaviour of the forum. Most notably, for the biggest changes, is the option called My board style. Here you can set the general appearance of the forum.
Board Styles
The default board style is ONM Classic, designed to be close to the old ONM forum in design. This style should be familiar to anyone moving over to SONM from there, and features a fixed-width forum with a blue aesthetic. The benefits of this style include an easier layout for reading text and the layout being fixed for all users, so everyone experiences the forums the same.
There is also an alternative style called Super ONM that is available should you prefer. Super ONM follows a red and grey colour scheme as opposed to the classic blue, and also displays the forums in widescreen. This can be useful if you want to embed and view large images easily, making the most use of your screen space - just bear in mind that for users using the default style of ONM Classic any images over a certain width will be cut-off when embedded!
Finally, there is the style known as Super Blue. This takes the best of both (according to some) from ONM Classic and Super ONM, giving the classic blue aesthetic with a widescreen view. Plenty of choice then for everyone!
All styles may still undergo further changes, so if you have any suggestions or feedback then this is the place for it!
Word Filtering
By default SONM has automatic word filtering for some swear words. If you would rather this was disabled so that you can read conversation in it's rawest, unfiltered, closest-to-the-bone and edgiest form, then navigate to Display Options under Board Preferences in the UCP - you should be able to disable Word Filtering there!
If you want to know about formatting your posts on the forum, try the BBCode Guide.

An interesting new feature, will there be any new styles available in the future?

Thanks Wrathy!
@Pineapple, there is always the possibility for new styles, really it's seeing what people prefer to use and what features they want. If there is something you feel could improve a style, then please feel free to bring it up (:
We're also planning a spooky makeover for Halloween, and I imagine we'll do similar for Christmas too!

Not really a fan of the red personally, I prefer the blue colour and can we have the wider option on by default please? Would make it less of a pain when using images on the forum.

Re: Customising the Forum
Default will remain as it is, at the very least for the transition period over from ONM, because it most matches the style people are used to from there.
Would definitely consider making an ONM Classic (wide) style though, if there is demand for it. So exactly the same as ONM Classic, just widescreen/stretched.
Widescreen still looks much worse though what is wrong with you all, I bet you even view MS Word with the page stretched to screen width rather than at 100%

Only thing that needs adjusting is the gap between the username and the avatar.

The red's cool, might as well go with it if there's more on offer from it.

Re: Customising the Forum
As i said in a seperate thread, it's great to see that this has been implemented.
I've personally not yet decided which theme i will be using, but it's certainly nice to have the choice.

The widescreen board style looks great, thanks!
It might just be me being picky, but I do prefer the blue to the red.

Re: Customising the Forum
I like the widescreen and the new GUI interface buttons for threads and replying but... can we get a toned down version on the colour front, or at least a blue option please?
The current scheme is making me go cross-eyed.

Re: Customising the Forum
Yeah I'd much rather have a wide blue version. Is there a way to stop the avatar area scailing across with everything else? It seems like a bunch of wasted space(Example- http://gyazo.com/80a9ee3f3103ef40b5815cea343f72f8).

Re: Customising the Forum
Thanks for the feedback guys! Sounds like a blue option is wanted by a fair few of you, so watch this space and I should have something soon (:
And yes I'll look into the avatar area scale issue, think I know what's going on.

Widescreen is great, just like OONM. But it's cool you are already working on the avatar size issue. Good work

The SONM style is very snazzy. I think I'm going to be using that one for the time being.

Re: Customising the Forum
I think personally one of the reasons for my absence from ONM in its last few years was because it didn't stretch out. Well this seems to of fixed that rather well. Now if only we could have something that shrinks the images down to size so they don't go off the screen. Something like [t]example.png[/t] would do and would avoid me having to open up my image editor.

Re: Customising the Forum
Red is quite harsh on the eyes. Maybe have one of each of the colours in the logo of Super ONM that we can choose from in wide mode and in classic mode?

Re: Customising the Forum
I just switched to SuperONM and while its nice to read and write in widescreen, I have to agree with those above me that the red is far too bright. Maybe it'll be possible to choose our own colour tone in a future site update? I'd personally like to use the ONM colour scheme in widescreen at the minute - its much more friendly on the eyes.

#A30018 looks much nicer than #E30018 as a base colour for the red theme.

Re: Customising the Forum
Is the Halloween themed forum layout still going to be a possibility for this year? Had a brainwave that this place should be called Spooky ONM instead for a couple days.

On this note, good work on the logo to whoever made it. I like it.Dix wrote:Is the Halloween themed forum layout still going to be a possibility for this year? Had a brainwave that this place should be called Spooky ONM instead for a couple days.

Check it, we have Halloween banners! Enjoy and/or be underwhelmed by my lacklustre effort (the pumpkins are different between styles)
